Edinburgh Buses

Edinburgh Buses

Ref: IT1116D

Price:£16.99

The city of Edinburgh has always been a favourite place for the bus enthusiast to visit. The smart madder and white buses have been an attraction for many years. This video programme is a presentation of Edinburgh buses from the 1960’s to end of the first decade of the twenty first century. We concentrate mainly on the vehicles of Edinburgh City Transport, now operating as Lothian Buses. Many other operators serve Edinburgh from the erstwhile Scottish Bus Group to the likes of First and Stagecoach today. Vehicles can be seen from these fleets as well as the many sightseeing buses mostly in open top form, but we concentrate on the ‘Edinburgh’ ones.

We start with some cine film from the 1960’s, unfortunately not of high quality, but considering the vehicles portrayed on it vitally important. Apart from the vehicles of the day it shows three demonstrators on loan to Edinburgh City Transport in the shape of A.E.C. Renown 7552 MX, Leyland Atlantean KTD 551C and Daimler Fleetline 565 CRW. Very rare footage indeed, that also includes brand new 101 (YSG 101) the three door Leyland Leopard, now in preservation. We then jump to some brief video shot in the 1990’s. The years 2002 and 2003 are covered with some re-edited footage which appeared on our ‘Scottish Weekend’ programme released in 2004, showing many Olympians in service along side the new order of the day – the low floor vehicles.

Bringing the story up to date we show footage filmed in 2008 and 2009. By now the fleet is very modern, with the old madder and white livery almost disappearing and being taken over by the new ‘harlequin’ style. This still features some of the old shades! On the vehicle front most of the ‘step entrance’ vehicles have left the fleet, with only one appearing on the 2009 footage, the very last in service, being withdrawn a few weeks after we filmed it in action. Our final shots are at Ocean Terminal where there is a mock up of the new Edinburgh tram that is due to enter service in 2011/12, the shape of things to come! There is plenty of action for you to enjoy. It is fascinating to see the fleet develop over the years. Just for good measure we finish off with two Photo Galleries from our own archives, one covering 1974, the other 1984. So sit back and see five decades of Edinburgh Buses passing in front of you from your favourite armchair!

Edinburgh Buses Revisited

Edinburgh Buses Revisited

Ref: IT1164D

Price:£16.99

The independent transport videos cameras have returned to Edinburgh to update the bus scene in the Capital city of Scotland. Quite a lot has changed since our last programme which was filmed in 2008/9. The Lothian Buses fleet is now 100% low floor and the harlequin livery is now being replaced by a stylised version of the madder and white scheme which now features the fashionable curves of the day. The presence of Firstbus is diminished in our 2012 footage as the services are being replaced by ‘East Lothian Buses’ a new subsidiary of the parent fleet in an all over white livery, but a good variety of Firstbus vehicles appear on our 2011 filming. Also new to Lothian Buses are a fleet of Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 Hybrid buses in a smart variation of the standard livery, where a Champagne gold colour is substituted for the white.

We start our programme on Princes Street in August 2011. There is plenty of action for you to enjoy as we film in many locations along this busy thoroughfare before moving to The Mound and Frederick Street for further shots. Our 2012 footage also starts in Princes Street, offering an interesting comparison with the previous years filming. We then take a ride on one of the new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400H vehicles.

We join 204 (LB61 BUS) in St. David Street for a journey to Western Harbour on service 10. An interesting ride through the streets passing similar vehicles on the same route as well as many other types. From Western Harbour we return to Princes Street onboard similar bus 211 (SN61 BBX), this time travelling on the lower deck, taking in the sights and sounds of the journey. With more footage being shot on Princes Street and St. David Street our filming then concludes on North Bridge as the sun starts to set on this beautiful city full of interesting buses.

We also include a ‘Bonus Disc’ that features archive film from the 1960’s of Corporation buses running alongside various Scottish Bus Group buses and coaches. Also video footage from the late 1980’s and early 1990’s of Lothian Buses in service as well as some interesting visiting buses to the streets of Edinburgh. We are sure you will enjoy these fascinating scenes from a bygone age!

Edinburgh Buses Revisited 2013

Edinburgh Buses Revisited 2013

Edinburgh Buses - Revisited 2013

We start our 2013 programme at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond, Fife with a review of the former Edinburgh buses either resident or visiting the museum on their annual open weekend that takes place in August. From the Guy Arab III single decker 739 (ESG 652) through to Leyland Titans, Atlanteans and Olympians, they are all captured, some operating on the ‘internal bus service’ that operates around the site. The independent transport videos cameras now move to the capital city of Scotland to record the current scene. Since our last visit a batch of Volvo 7900 Hybrid single deckers have entered service on route 1. Like the ADL 400H double deckers which we featured on our last programme, they are smartly turned out in the gold livery. There are now fewer buses in the ‘harlequin’ livery and we also observe buses from FirstBus in their new colours.

Our filming starts at Waterloo Place and we then move to Princes Street which is almost ready for the trams which will start operating in early 2014. Most types of vehicles are seen here, including some of the ‘ERM’ class of open top AEC Routemaster operating in sightseeing Mac Tours livery now operated by Lothian Buses. A good deal of action is filmed on the busy Lothian Road as the buses turn from and into Princes Street. We then visit Queensferry Street, The Mound and The Royal Mile. At North Bridge we see some of the integral Scania OmniCity double deckers which were formally used on the Airport service. We return to Princes Street and board Volvo 7900 Hybrid, 1 (LB13 BUS) on route 1 towards Clermiston. It is interesting to hear this vehicle in service, as the engine cuts out at bus stops, then pulls away with the electric motor before the diesel engine takes over. We return to the city centre on board sister vehicle number 2 (HY13 BUS). With more filming at Leith Walk and Princes Street we board ADL 400H, 215 (SN61 BCK) for a ‘cab ride’ to Ingliston Park & Ride on service X12. Filmed along most of the route we see all of the action as our camera records the journey from the front, alongside the driver of this superb modern vehicle.

As a bonus we present three visits to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond. Our visits start in 2011 and continue in 2012 and 2013. There is plenty of action covering a wide variety of vehicles in various liveries moving around the site at the annual open weekends.

We are sure you will enjoy the variety offered on this programme – the main feature of course is Edinburgh buses, but the visits to Lathalmond reminds us of what has gone before!

Glasgow Buses 2019

Glasgow Buses 2019

Ref: IT1367D

Price:£16.99

The Glasgow bus scene in 2019 is quite a colourful affair. The main operator, Firstbus, operating as First Glasgow, has introduced route branding across the city with brightly coloured fronts to indicate the routes the buses are operating on. First Glasgow introduced a fleet of 75 new buses at the end of 2018. These ADL Enviro 400 MMC double-deckers are in the new ‘simplified’ First corporate livery featuring coloured fronts and are seen in this DVD programme. Stagecoach also operate a number of inter-urban services in the Glasgow region in their corporate livery as well as a number of ‘route branded’ services. The Scottish Citylink livery of blue and yellow is seen on coaches operated by Parks of Hamilton and other contractors. Also featured in this programme are a number of buses operated by local independents including McGill’s, Stuarts and West Coast Motors (some branded as Glasgow Citybus).

Our filming takes place at many locations across the city. Our first is Killermont Street, home to the massive Buchanan Bus Station. Here we see buses from the variety of fleets arriving and leaving to all parts of the city and Scotland! Other locations featured are Bath Street, Cathedral Street, North Hanover Street and George Square. Our cameraman then captures the action of the buses running through the many streets of the city with backdrops of the superb architecture that can be found in central Glasgow including the ‘Merchant City’ area. This includes Ingram Street, High Street, Trongate, Saltmarket, Crown Street, Gorbals Street, Argyle Street and Renfield Street to name but a few. A further visit is made to Buchanan Bus Station. A brief visit is then taken to the Scottish Bus Museum at Lathalmond. During the 2019 Open Weekend, Firstbus sent four vehicles for display, that included from First Scotland East 67762 (SN62 AUJ), an Enviro300 single-decker branded for the X36 route from Stirling to Glasgow and sporting ‘Midland’ fleet names. First Glasgow displayed 33101 (SK19 EOM) a brand new ADL Enviro 400City double-decker in a two tone purple livery for the 500 Buchanan Bus Station to Glasgow Airport service and two Volvo B9TL/Wright Gemini double-deckers, 37738 (SF09 LDJ) and 37751 (SF09 LFB), both in liveries celebrating 125 years of buses in Glasgow (1894-2019). 37738 is painted in Glasgow Corporation livery and 37751 in the Greater Glasgow scheme of green, yellow and white.

We now open up our archives with some cine film taken by Malcolm King filmed at Buchanan Bus Station in the 1970s featuring Bristol Lodekkas and many Alexander ‘Y’ type single-deckers. Malcolm returned in the 1990s when the scene had changed considerably following deregulation with a variety of liveries and vehicle types. The bright orange and black liveried Strathclyde’s Buses really stand out with many of the former Scottish Bus Group buses wearing various livery styles and fleet names. We see Volvo Ailsa double-deckers, Volvo B10M Citybuses, Leyland Atlanteans, Olympians, MCW Metrobuses as well as many Alexander ‘Y’ type single-deckers. Locations include Buchanan Bus Station, Johnstone, Old Kilpatrick and Clydebank. So much for you enjoy!

Lathalmond - The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum

Lathalmond - The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum

Ref: IT1117D

Price:£16.99

The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum based at Lathalmond near Dunfermline is a gem for the bus enthusiast, featuring preserved buses and coaches from all over the British Isles, but majoring on the fleets of Scotland in the years gone by. Our cameras visited here in 2005 and 2009 to record the events of the Open Weekend that is a must on the enthusiasts calendar in mid August each year.

We open the programme in 2005 at the Rally site, showing some of the attending vehicles before jumping on board a 1943 Guy Arab II CDR 679, restored to a wartime grey livery for the brief run to Dunfermline bus station. At the bus station we linger to record the modern day operations of Stagecoach Fife. The return to the site is on board another Guy Arab, this time mark III GVD 47, a Duple bodied example that used to operate with McGill’s of Barrhead.

Another feature of the Open Weekend is the Sunday morning road run through the beautiful Fife countryside. We travel on former Bristol Omnibus, Bristol RELL6L 1257 (DAE 511K), smartly turned out in Badgerline livery. This combination of Bristol/ECW vehicle was rare in Scotland, with only Alexander Fife operating the type!

Our return in 2009 is covered in more detail, with a good deal of the operation on the rally site being recorded over the two days. Look out for CDR 679 out of its wartime guise and now repainted in the rich colours of AA Motor Services of Ayr. Also Blackpool Corporation Leyland Titan number 501 displaying a different route destination on each run it makes on the internal bus service! Rides to Dunfermline this time are provided by the former China Motor Bus, Alexander bodied Guy Victory 2 for a return trip, and the beautifully restored Central S.M.T. Bristol Lodekka LD6G, B87, for a one way trip to Dunfermline. An interesting comparison of vehicle types for you to enjoy. This video makes an interesting companion to our "Scottish Weekend" titles that feature previous visits to the Museum and Glasgow and Endinburg in recent years as well as "Edinburgh Buses", "Edinburgh Buses Revisited" and "Edinburgh Buses Revisted 2013".

Scottish Weekend

Scottish Weekend

Price:£17.95

Lathalmond is the home to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum. Each year in August they have an ‘Open Weekend’. The independent transport videos cameras have been there for the last three years capturing the ‘moving’ exhibits. The video starts at the 2001 event, where we travel on a former China Motor Bus Leyland Fleetline SF32, put former Chester City Transport Guy Arab No.42 through its paces, as well as seeing many other preserved Scottish and English buses in operation.

Our 2002 coverage starts in Edinburgh’s Princes Street where we spend a sunny afternoon filming the ‘current’ vehicles of Lothian and FirstBus going about their daily work. Other locations are used so you really get a feel for the city and the events of the ‘Festival’ which is going on in the background! By comparison we then head to Lathalmond for our second visit on this programme.

We then return to Scotland for 2003, this time making a brief visit to Glasgow to see the latest East Lancs ‘Nordic’ tri-axle Volvos in service and over to Edinburgh’s Haymarket area for the current update. Our Lathalmond coverage in 2003 looks at the one of the ‘Nordics’ in detail, a ride on a former Fife Bristol Lodekka FS, and a further ride on the ex. C.M.B. Fleetline on the road run to Kirkcaldy. Also coverage of many other vehicles at this museum of bus excellence.

A video of contrasts - ancient meets ultra modern - the relaxed atmosphere of Lathalmond and the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Edinburgh and Glasgow go to make this a must for your video collection!
